Family and Partner Migration 

 

Being separated from your partner and family members can be a frustrating experience. Australia has a number of visas available to enable an Australian (or an Australian Permanent Resident) to sponsor partner, child and family member.

The family and partner migration schemes allow eligible persons to sponsor their partner or family members to join them in Australia on a temporary or permanent basis.

Both the sponsor and applicant will need to meet the eligibility criteria which varies depending on the type of visa one qualifies for.

 

The following Visa streams are some which are available

Partner Category Visa Options

If you wish to bring your partner to Australia, there are different types of partner visas available:-

  • Spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, or

  • Fiancé of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen; or

  • De facto partner (including same-sex relationships) with an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

 

Child and Adoption Visa Options

This visa application typically includes:

  • Children with parents residing in Australia.

  • Persons under 18 years of age (and if a person is 18 years of age or older, he/she must be single and either: a full-time student between 18 and 25 years of age and financially dependent on the sponsoring parent, or is unable to work due to disability).  

  • Single persons (not married, engaged to be married, or in a de facto relationship).

Parent Category Visa Options

This visa application typically includes:

  • Parents with 1 or more children residing in Australia.
